Toys to Love

I spend much of my days playing and learning and creating with my children.  I definitely have my favorite toys…as do they!  Most of the time we love the same toys.  It’s kind of funny the way the toys I don’t care for seem to get lost so easily…and for such a long time…sometimes Momma needs a break!  Hmmm….! Pattern blocks however, are a classic that need never be set aside!  They are by far one of my favorite toys.  They also happen to a fabulous learning tool.  Early math, art, visual perception, geometry, and sensorial awareness (to name a few) are introduced, reinforced, and solidified seamlessly with play.  Oh, they are a marvel!

I just found your blog and I am fascinated. Toys are such a wonderful childhood past time. Where did you find your pattern blocks. I need some for my children.

The wooden pattern blocks are available here (among other places!): http://www.learningresources.com/product/wooden+p...
Lots of different things get play at different times around here. They are really loving their barn from Christmas. But the dollhouse and play kitchen get a lot of play too. The older one likes to spend lots of time painting and coloring too.

Those are big favorites around here as well. I would love to see the barn! Do you have images of it on your blog?
Legos and Plan City cars, trains, etc are probably our most played with, although our knitted gnomes, wooden trucks and wooden play food get lots of love too. Thanks for sharing those pattern blocks. We have a set of similar ones that are all trapezoid (Trapecolo) in different colors that we enjoy, but none like that.
My girls are loving their playsilks - both big and small - and the rainbow tunnel gets lots of creative use. Some of the less well-loved toys in our house have 'gone missing', too hee hee.

glad to see I'm not the only toy thief!!!!
I just recently found your blog and I'm loving it! I love all the toys that allow children to create. right now my 3 year old loves painting, play dough, and our newly made felt board. When I was a music and movement teacher, my students all loved my dance rings, which were just cut out yogurt tops with different fabrics tied on.

We have the same pattern blocks! I got them from a retired teacher, along with some cards of patterns to make. I wonder what else you can do with them, though? What kinds of games do you play with yours?
