Those of you who have been around this space for a while…or have done some thorough poking around may remember this vintage treasure that found us.
We have a pretty serious soft spot for dollhouses around here. Restoring this beauty was such a fun (and long) project for my little ones and I…and their Nana…now there is a dollhouse enthusiast if there ever was one. It was worked on in short burst of excitement interrupted by more pressing projects, plantings and harvestings, and well…life.
Finally on the eve of a fifth birthday this little red cottage got its final makeover. The original dollhouse was wallpapered with fantastic looking (but not so great smelling!) vintage papers. I loved the look and knew I wanted color and patterns in the rooms. In the end we used some cotton lace trim for valances, I pulled apart some silk flowers to be a row of “new” flowers in the window box, and painted the shutters a delicious green left over from this project. But that was just the outside…! The inside was just too much fun! A packet of Amy Butler paper was just the thing for adding some zing to the walls. Honestly the hardest part was choosing which beautiful papers to use. The papers were simply “mod-podged” on. The result is a fresh and beautiful dollhouse ready for a second lifetime of play. Oh yes my friends, we do love dollhouses.
