Lego Learning

Legos are at the top in terms of best kids toys of the century…in our opinion at least! I have to admit that the lego duplos are my favorite in terms of scale and design. I love all the different people, animals and vehicles! We have been very very lucky in our thrifting to find some amazing sets and have a great collection that sees a lot of play time!

Recently the legos have made their way into a few school activities as well.

In geography the kidlets have been thoroughly enjoying their expedition around the world. We were in Panama recently and were discovering the wonders of the Panama Canal. When learning about the amazing mechanics of canal locks we turned to our lego duplos to build our own lock. Boats traveled back and forth through that simple lock all afternoon carrying all sorts of cargo from one end of the rug to the other!

We pulled out the legos again when reviewing nouns, verbs, and adjectives. I labeled a couple dozen lego bricks (painters tape!) with word examples and we built a track, a “word factory” and several collection sites for our words. The trains were busy for quite a while as both kidlets worked to deliver their words.

Hooray for lego love!
